Health & Fitness Tips

Experts believe exercise releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. Regular exercise can boost your self-esteem and help you concentrate, sleep and feel better.

Exercising doesn’t just mean doing sports or going to the gym. Walks in the park, gardening or housework can also keep you active.  Experts say most people should do about 30 minutes of exercise at least five days a week.  Select a physical activity that you enjoy and make it part of your day!

Hydration Tip: Please hydrate yourself before, during and after activity.  I am encouraging everyone to drink water for this time frame.

**Disclaimer: Be mindful to continue with your required supplemental and medical individual needs. **

Eating Tip: Eat at least 2-3 hours prior to your activity to allow your body the time to break down the nutrients needed to provide the fuel you need for your walk, run, bike ride, skating, gardening, stairs, swimming, etc.

Good examples of meals to eat 2–3 hours before a workout include:

  • lean meat with veggies and brown rice

  • a whole grain sandwich with eggs, avocado, and a side of fruit

  • oatmeal with peanut butter, blueberries, and a protein shakePressed for time, focus more on the carbs and proteins.

Good examples of meals to eat 45–60 minutes before a workout include:

  • a banana or apple with nut butter

  • a blueberry and banana protein smoothie

  • a hard-boiled egg and toast
